Committee Chairperson: Rachel DePaul
Committee Charge: The Social Emotional Learning Committee is a group dedicated to fostering the social-emotional well-being of all students, through school, community, parent engagement, and district-wide programs.
Guiding Principles:
- Inclusive education in a caring climate is a priority
- There is an explicit need for Social Emotional safety
- Children cannot learn if their social/emotional needs are not met
- Adults and students need to feel culturally accepted/embraced
- We need to identify and monitor trends within our school community and prescribe a plan of action
- Everyone has to feel a sense of belonging in our schools
- We need to create cultures that will support social emotional growth and address inappropriate verbal behaviors through education
- Meaningful and caring student/adult connections are highly valued
- Students must be able to practice self reflection
- We must consider the unique needs of each individual
