Transportation Department

  • Resident pupils, ages 5 to 21, who attend public or private schools in Croton are entitled to bus transportation according to the distance from home to school as measured by the shortest route. Transportation is provided for the following distances:

Grades K-4: three-tenths of a mile or more from school
Grades 5-12: nine-tenths of a mile or more from school

Bus stop times are approximate times only: Parents are advised that school buses may arrive five minutes early. Students are encouraged to wait at the bus stop until 10 minutes after the scheduled time. It is the parents’ responsibility to get students to and from bus stops safely. If a student misses the bus, it is the parents’ responsibility to get him or her to school.

Students are not permitted to change buses, nor are non-riders permitted to accompany riders. Exceptions to this practice may be considered by the appropriate building principal and the transportation director upon written request by the student’s parent or guardian.

Transportation routes and schedules are subject to change; faculty, students, and parents will be notified. Students riding district buses equipped with seat belts are expected to use them. A student’s good behavior on school buses is essential to assure safety in transporting all students.

Transportation is also provided for district resident pupils who attend nonpublic schools outside the district up to 15 miles away as measured from home to the school or from a central pick-up point in eligible cases. Parents desiring such transportation must apply in writing to the Superintendent of Schools no later than April 1 preceding the school year for which transportation is being requested. For new families moving into the district after April 1, a request may be made within 30 days after establishing residency in the district.

Parents with questions about transportation should call the Transportation Supervisor at the above number. Problems regarding student conduct on buses should be referred to the building principal.
