8th Grade Transition to High School 5/31/2017

Dear PVC 8th Grade Parents/Guardians -
As part of transitioning you child to High School, parents are invited to a presentation - "Survival Tips for Parenting Your Teenager During These Transitional Years" - by Terence J. Houlihan, MS Ed, CRS.
Mr. Houlihan has been an educator and counselor for over 18 years and is an internationally known expert on the developmental changes associated with adolescence. The presentation will include effective strategies for raising your teen in light of the research on adolescent brain development.
When & Where: May 31, 2017 at the Croton-Harmon HS Community Room

The Croton-Harmon Task Force Addressing Prominent Issues in Society Parents Talk:
When: March 23rd, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Where: Croton-Harmon High School Auditorium
Featuring presenters from My Sisters’ Place. The evening’s presentation is entitled, “Talking with Teens Openly about Consent, Sex, and Healthy Relationships.”
Parents will:
Develop a stronger understanding of what consent means and how to communicate it to youth
Get new tools to help them be accessible to youth for hard conversations
Increase their understanding of teen dating abuse

When: March 23rd, 2017 School Assemblies 9th & 10th @10:49am 11th&12th @12:10pm
Where: Croton-Harmon High School Auditorium
Featuring presenters from My Sisters’ Place and It's On Us. The presentation is entitled, “Talking with Teens Openly about Consent, sex and Healthy Relationships.”
After the assemblies, students participated in "break out groups" to further discuss the topics and themes presented.

SCREENAGERS, Growing up in the Digital Age
When: March 9, 2017 7pm - 8:30pm
Where: CHHS Auditorium
Sponsored by: PVC Advisory Committee and CHUFSD Task Force Addressing Prominent Issues in Society
Directed by Delaney Ruston, M.D., “Screenagers is about the impact of the digital age on children and how to help them minimize harmful effects and find balance.” In this film, families will share their personal stories and “messy struggles” around social networking, screen time, texting, video game violence, internet addiction and possible solutions so we can empower our kids to effectively navigate the digital world.
Refreshments and open discussion after the film.
We invite all parents and students to attend this special screening!

The Community Panel Discussion held January 18th, 2017, was organized for the community to address topics of consent, harassment, and sexual assault. This exchange of ideas was led by several professionals that have broad experience regarding the issues and covered a number of important perspectives.
