CHHS ENL Students Share the Magic of Fairy Tales with CET Second Graders
Students in the English as a New Language (ENL) program at Croton-Harmon High School recently brought the magic of storytelling to (CET). As part of a special visit, the high school students read classic fairy tales in both Spanish and English to second graders, who are currently immersed in a fairy tale unit.
With the guidance of CHHS ENL teacher Amy Yanarrelli and Librarian Pam Wilson, the ENL students carefully selected beloved fairy tales available in both languages. They practiced reading aloud, adding expressive voices to bring each character to life. Their preparation paid off as the younger students sat rapt with attention, enchanted by the familiar stories told in two languages.
Second-grade teacher Eileen Deacy emphasized the significance of this collaborative experience. "It’s moments like this that make this district so incredible," she said, highlighting how the visit fostered a sense of community and connection across grade levels.
The visit exemplified the Croton-Harmon School District's commitment to fostering inclusion and belonging for all students. By giving the ENL students an opportunity to share their bilingual skills, the experience not only celebrated cultural diversity but also allowed the high schoolers to feel valued and appreciated.
Events like these create meaningful connections and provide all students with a sense of belonging, reinforcing the district's dedication to building a supportive and inclusive educational environment.
