CHHS Senior, Caroline Casieri Earns an Honorable Mention Award at Regeneron’s Westchester Science and Engineering Fair

Congratulations to our very own Caroline Casieri for earning an "Honorable Mention" award in the category of Cellular and Molecular Biology at Regeneron’s Westchester Science and Engineering Fair (WESEF)!

Regeneron WESEF, the Westchester Science and Engineering Fair, offers high school students from our region the opportunity to present their research to scientists, business leaders, and the general public. Students prepare professional research posters detailing their projects which, in most cases, have involved complex research conducted under the guidance of professional scientists in their field of interest. The event features student work from 30 schools throughout Westchester and Putnam.

Caroline shared how much she enjoyed presenting her original research and discussing her findings with professionals in cellular and molecular biology. “It was an incredible opportunity to develop my presentation skills and to learn how to present my original findings. It was also a great chance to meet and learn from other high school students throughout Westchester who have engaged in their own original research projects,” she said.

With over 500 students participating in the fair, Caroline noted that “there was so much incredible research that students had done in my area,” which made her recognition all the more exciting. “I felt proud to receive recognition for my accomplishments among such an amazing group of students,” she said.

An aspiring biological researcher, Caroline pursued a topic she is passionate about, and engaged with with research and industry professionals who helped guide her. Over the summer, she worked with her mentor at Pfizer who she describes as “an incredible support” in her research and preparing for competitions.

Science Research teacher Robert Keehn shared how proud he is of Caroline’s well-deserved achievement, hard work, and determination.  “Caroline’s research on the impacts of DMSO Dosage on Oxidative Stress and its Implications for Therapeutics has been an impressive feat as senior year is a stressful time for students. However, Caroline has met that challenge with hard work and determination with her recent WESEF award acting as a testament to her drive and perseverance," he said.
