CHHS Students Shine at Somers Science Research Fair

Croton-Harmon High School's first-year Science Research students delivered an outstanding performance at the recent Somers Science Research Fair, earning multiple awards while competing against more than 870 student researchers from across the region.

The annual fair provides first-year Science Research students with the opportunity to present their original research projects and engage with peers from neighboring districts. This year also marked one of Croton-Harmon's largest groups of participants in recent memory, reflecting the continued growth and strength of the district's Science Research program.

Several CHHS students earned top honors in their respective categories:

  • Vivien Chen — 2nd Place, Physics
  • Iliana Harris — 3rd Place, Bioinformatics
  • Jess Katz — 3rd Place, Engineering

Science Research teacher Laura Lynch noted that the awards were especially meaningful given the caliber of competition.

"There were so many students presenting, and many of the top projects came from long-established science research programs that regularly participate in regional and state competitions," Lynch said. "For Vivien to earn second place in Physics and for Iliana and Jess to place third in their categories is a tremendous accomplishment. We are incredibly proud of all of our students."

Beyond the award winners, Croton-Harmon's entire delegation represented the district with professionalism, curiosity, and a commitment to scientific inquiry. Students shared their research with judges and fellow participants, gaining valuable experience in presentation, communication, and critical thinking.

CHHS Principal Dr. Dubak praised both the students and their teachers for the accomplishment.

"This was an outstanding representation of Croton-Harmon High School," Dr. Dubak said. "Our students demonstrated confidence, professionalism, and a genuine passion for learning. We are proud of all of our participants and grateful to Laura Lynch and Daniel Burgo for their mentorship and support throughout the research process."
