The Croton-Harmon School District Board of Education has approved the appointment of Laura Dubak, Ed.D., as Assistant Superintendent, effective July 1. The appointment was approved at the Board of Education meeting on February 12.
Dr. Dubak brings seven years of visionary leadership as Principal of Croton-Harmon High School, where she has played a central role in bringing the district’s instructional vision to life. Under her leadership, the high school has reimagined the learning experience to center student choice, curiosity, and engagement, beginning with the development of interdisciplinary core courses, along with the expansion of dual enrollment opportunities, the implementation of a new school schedule, strengthened mental health supports, redesigned classroom and learning spaces, and the district’s first pedagogical coaching model. Together, these efforts have created learning conditions that support student growth and are reflected in recent presentations highlighting student performance across several assessments.
“We are very fortunate to have Dr. Dubak step into this role,” said Steve Walker, Superintendent of Schools. “This appointment reflects both the strength of our internal leadership and the value we place on retaining outstanding talent. Laura’s deep understanding of our district’s vision, combined with the proven results of her leadership, ensures continuity and a seamless transition that will benefit our students and staff.”
Beyond her accomplishments at the high school, Dr. Dubak is highly respected across the district for the strong relationships she has built with staff and administrators. She has been a key leader in the development of the district’s Vision Map, the re-envisioning of hiring practices, and the systems used to mentor and support educators. In a district where culture, collaboration, and trust are essential, colleagues consistently view her as a thoughtful and effective leader. As Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Dubak will provide districtwide leadership in a range of areas, including curriculum, instruction, assessment, and human resources.
CHUFSD Board of Education President Ana Teague explained that the Board met with Dr. Dubak individually as part of the recruitment process and unanimously agreed her credentials and her depth of knowledge of the community and vision for the work benefitting our students make her uniquely qualified for this position. “We are extremely pleased she will continue to invest her efforts and talent in this community, and look forward to working with her to ensure the best possible outcomes for every student,” said Ms. Teague.
Dr. Dubak holds an undergraduate degree from New York University, a master’s degree in Educational Policy from Harvard University, a master’s degree in public school leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a doctoral degree from Fordham University. Prior to joining Croton-Harmon, she served as an assistant principal at Byram Hills High School and Horace Greeley High School, and as an assistant principal and English teacher in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
Dr. Dubak’s appointment follows the resignation of Assistant Superintendent John Griffiths, who will conclude his service to the district on June 30, 2026. The district thanks Mr. Griffiths for his years of excellent service and leadership.
