The Board of Education and district and building leaders collaborated during a retreat focused on shared priorities, communication, program evaluation, and strategic planning.
The Croton-Harmon Schools Leadership Team, including district and building administration in partnership with the Board of Education, gathered this summer to reflect on the prior school year and to prepare for the 2026-27 school year. The retreat was focused on connecting with new team members, reflecting on the implementation of the Vision Map while linking the work to measurable results, program review of recent initiatives, and planning for district and building goals stemming from Board of Education priorities.
Time during the retreat was spent learning about the Board of Education’s priorities, including strengthening communication and community trust, continuing to focus on academic rigor and student achievement, and setting clear expectations around regular reporting. The retreat’s second day was devoted to developing district and building goals discussions centered on curriculum work, communications, and opportunities to create common student experiences across sections and classes as well as how progress will be measured for each goal in the year ahead.
Leaders also deepened their understanding of the CHUFSD Vision Map and discussed potential connections between the Vision Map and New York State’s emerging NY Inspires Plan. They explored ways to communicate the vision more clearly and further develop interdisciplinary learning, assessment practices, learning environments, and school culture.
The team also explored a structured process for reviewing district programs and initiatives. Using Algebra for All at PVC after its first year of implementation as an example, the team considered student access, achievement, stakeholder feedback, and opportunities for continued improvement. The group also discussed how program outcomes and monitoring can be communicated clearly to the Board of Education and community.
“This retreat was an opportune time for our entire leadership team, both the Board of Education and the administration, to ensure that we begin the upcoming school year with a shared vision for how we will support, challenge, and inspire every Tiger student to achieve success this year,” noted Superintendent Stephen Walker. “It was wonderful to see our District’s leaders working together toward our shared goals.”
The two-day retreat provided valuable time for Croton-Harmon’s leadership team to step back, reflect, and plan together. “As representatives of the Croton-Harmon community charged with supporting student achievement, the Board appreciated spending a full day dedicated to collaborating with District leadership on these joint priorities. We enjoyed partnering with one another over this work while strengthening new and longstanding relationships.” As the District prepares to welcome students and staff for the 2026-27 school year, this collaborative work will help ensure that goals, programs, communication, and decision-making remain focused on collaboratively creating #WhatSchoolCanBe.
