Tiger Fashion Week 2024: Students Strut Their Stuff in Summer Fashion Show
Milan isn’t the only hub for fashionistas, as evidenced by ELL Summer Program students this week. Tapping into their individuality, PVC students performed a desfile de moda (fashion show) for CET ELL students as part of the CHUFSD ELL Summer Program. This fun and original activity was the idea of ELL teacher Ms. Ellingsen, who runs the middle school summer program. “My students have big personalities, and I wanted to come up with an activity that celebrates who they are,” she said. “This provides them with an opportunity to shine and express themselves without using language as a primary way of doing so.”
Middle school students paraded on the blue catwalk, pausing to describe their fashion pieces in Spanish and English to the audience of elementary students, teachers, and administrators. Next, CET students showed off their outfits as they walked the carpet with CET ELL teacher Ms. Cueto. However, the students weren’t the only ones to model their style. In the grand finale, Superintendent Stephen Walker and CET Assistant Principal Craig Campanaro took to the catwalk with their fashion pieces—los zapatos and chaqueta larga, respectively.
One student, Adonai, who is going into ninth grade, stole the show with his entrance. Moonwalking backward across the floor, he presented a carefully color-coordinated outfit around an item of clothing that is meaningful to him. “This is my Ferrari jacket that is red, white, and black. My pants are black and red, and my sneakers are red. I picked them out to match the jacket. It’s special to me because it was a gift from my sister, and I really like cars.”
